Coulee Council hosting meeting on how family can help addicts

One speaker will talk about the purpose of the needle exchange

There has been much discussion over La Crosse’s needle exchange program recently and whether it helps the community.

At 7 p.m. Wednesday, the Coulee Council on Addictions will host what’s being called a Family Information Session, where one guest will talk about the needle exchange. Others will talk about addiction and how friends and family can help someone through the process.

Laura Runchey, Prevention Supervisor with the Aids Resource Center in La Crosse, will “talk about the purpose behind the needle exchange program,” Coulee Council on Addictions executive director Cheryl Hancock said.

Also speaking at the hour-long program will be Mary Mundt Reckase from Great Rivers 211 and Laurie Lautz, who runs a support program at Coulee Council on Addictions.

Great Rivers 211 offers free, confidential community information, referrals and crisis line services 24 hours a day.

Coulee Council on Addictions is a nonprofit agency that provides education, treatment and support for physical and mental addictions.
