Must be in college-readiness class, and apply by Feb. 1

Hard work could pay off for local high school students headed to Viterbo University in the fall.

Those taking college-readiness courses have an opportunity to get a $1,000 per year (up to four years) through Viterbo’s College Readiness Scholarship.

It’s one of the ways the university is encouraging students to look to the future and be ready to take on a post-secondary education.

“They do a lot of test prep, a lot of mentorship – bringing in speakers to encourage students, to motivate them,” Brian Weber at the Viterbo admissions office said of those readiness classes. “(They will) talk about what college was like for them, what their careers have been like, to expose them to a lot of different things.”

Programs that would qualify for the scholarship include Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID), Upward Bound, College Possible, Chicago Scholars, GEAR UP, Talent Search and others.

To qualify students should apply and be accepted for admission to Viterbo by Feb. 1. An online application can be found here.
