Wisconsin AAA says it’s a waste of money

If you’re not buying the cheapest gas for your car, you’re wasting money.

Stop buying premium and super fuel says Wisconsin AAA’s Nick Jarmusz.

“There’s some belief out there that using premium gasoline could provide more horsepower or better fuel economy or reduce tailpipe emissions. There’s really none of those benefits.”

Jarmusz gives two reasons why they’re out there.

“Those are really marketing labels,” he says. “The higher-octane gas is not necessarily better gas, it’s just a different gas that is required by certain engines.

“Our recommendation is that you not use what’s higher than the minimum recommended (octane level for your car), because it really is just a waste of money.”

Some vehicles require a premium or super gasoline, one with a higher octane level. Odds are, however, yours just needs to regular unleaded.
