Summer in La Crosse hits Top 10 historically for rain

Nearly hit the record, which came back in 1938

It was the eighth wettest summer on record in La Crosse and there doesn’t appear to be any letup.

The area saw 18.56 inches of rain during the summer – 12-13 is normal. The record came back in 1938 (21.5).

A flash flood watch is in effect until Thursday evening in the area, as well.

“Given the pattern we’ve been in, it would not surprise me if we continue to see several more weeks of rain,” Dave Lawrence with the National Weather Service in La Crosse.

He added that the difference between wet and dry summers is simple, but hard to predict.

“It all depends on where thunderstorms line up,” Lawrence said. “In 2012, it was one of the driest summers on record.

“This just happened to be our year locally, where we had numerous round of showers and thunderstorms.”
