La Crosse Greetings can be seen at south side festgrounds

One of the first things visitors to the south side festgrounds will see at Oktoberfest this year is an eight-foot-high painting, which looks like a postcard.

The mural was created by Bekah Kienzle and Julie Pleshe.

The La Crosse Greetings mural was unveiled Monday, following weeks of design and painting by two college students, who were chosen by a University of Wisconsin-La Crosse art professor for the task.

“We really wanted images that people look at and be able to relate to – things that they see walking around the city,” Pleshe said. “We tried to pick elements that were diverse – both with people and events around the community.

“It took a lot of narrowing it down to get to eight letters, but that’s what we came up with.”
