Dinner in the street begins at 6 p.m.

Last week, the Torchlight Parade for Oktoberfest filled up Caledonia St. on a Thursday night.

One community group wants to fill that street again tonight with a dinner for residents who want to help improve the north side, called Uptowne Dinner in the Street.

The 6 p.m. dinner on Caledonia will follow a day-long planning workshop at the Uptowne Cafe. That was the first of several activities aimed at generating excitement about the proposed ‘Uptowne’ branding of the north side.

Nick Roush, president of the North La Crosse Business Association, talks about what could happen after a three-day workshop that continues through Friday.

“What are the projects that are really going to impact for our part of the community and La Crosse as a whole?” Roush asked. “After all the great ideas come out of these processes, how do we do them, how do we get them done?”

Organizers of the Uptowne project recently raised money through a Kickstarter campaign to bring in urban planners to help generate ideas for making North La Crosse better.
