Online threat cancels classes at Central High, football game moved to Saturday

So, the clown thing in La Crosse has officially gone too far.  

Classes at Central high school in La Crosse have been dismissed this morning as of 9:30, apparently because of an online threat.

The football game between the Red Raiders and Onalaska has been moved to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at UW-La Crosse’s Veterans Memorial Field – Central’s regular home field – with the homecoming dance to follow.

While the school district didn’t specify the nature of the threat, city police have verified that the closure has something to do with a clown.

In addition, a Facebook post by “Billy The Clown” referenced coming to the school and shooting this afternoon.  

There’s already been a rash of clown sightings that have led to numerous police reports.  Six on Thursday night alone.  

UW-La Crosse police on Thursday released a statement urging calm on the campus and reminding students that just dressing like a clown is not illegal though acting in a threatening or disturbing manner can be.  

Two young girls in the Milwaukee area were just arrested earlier this week for making online threats related to clowns.  

It has yet to be decided whether Central will hold its homecoming football game tonight because of the online threats.
