Ryan’s handling of Trump opens door for Solen to take congressional seat

Trump republicans swayed from Ryan to Solen

Things have not gone the way Ryan Solen would have expected in this election cycle.

The Democrat is making his first bid for public office, trying to overtake the Wisconsin congressional seat currently held by Speaker of the House, Republican Paul Ryan.

A prohibitive long shot at first, Solen is now picking up support from republicans who are angry at Ryan’s shunning of Trump.

Solen says he saw that firsthand at the Wisconsin event Trump, where Trump was uninvited.

“We’re sitting there and watching the demeanor of the people as the different speakers went up there, and then, watching it culminate,” Solen explained, “and Paul Ryan, essentially, booed off the stage because of Trump. (It) was kind of surreal quite honestly.”

Solen is still seen as a long shot in a solid Republican district but defections by Trump supporters are likely to make the race way more interesting.

“The trump supporters are essentially defecting from Paul Ryan’s side and coming to my aid because they want to get rid of Paul Ryan,” Solen said.

Not all of Trump’s supporters, concedes Solen, but maybe enough to make the race a little more interesting.

It’s just another thing that’s made this election unique.

“It has been weird,” Solen said. “It has been really weird. It seems like week to week something changes and throws the whole thing for a loop.”
