WIAA FB PLAYOFFS: Seth Wilson puts on show as Holmen, multiple area teams move on
Badgers prospect scores 5 TDs
It was the Seth Wilson show in Division 2 of the opening round of the WIAA high school football playoffs.
The Wisconsin Badgers prospect led sixth-seeded Holmen to a 58-37 upset over No. 2 Superior.
Wilson had 15 carries, 221 yards, four rushing TDs and a 90-yard kick return for a TD.
Holmen will play Pulaski on Friday.
IN DIVISION 3, fifth-seeded Logan won 58-37 over No. 4 Hayward/Lac Courte Oreilles.
The Rangers will head to top-seeded Rice Lake on Friday.
Also in the division, No. 2-seeded Onalaska got 328 yards and five TDs from quarterback Brayton Duin in one half, as the Hilltoppers beat No. 7 Sparta 42-7.
Onalaska will play No. 3 New Richmond on Friday.
IN DIVISION 4, West Salem beat Nekoosa 48-22, while Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau won 50-14 over Amery.
Those two teams will play at G-E-T on Friday.
IN DIVISION 5, fourth-seeded Arcadia won 34-21 over No. 5 New Glarus/Monticello. The Red Raiders will play top-seeded Clinton on Friday.
Lancaster defeated Westby 31-13.
IN DIVISION 6, Chetek-Weyerhaeser held off Melrose-Mindoro 21-17.
IN DIVISION 7, defending state champions and top-seeded Bangor beat No. 8 McDonnell Central 65-28.
Luke Reader had 127 yards and two TDs in the first half – his only half – for Bangor, which will play fourth-seeded De Soto on Friday.
Also in the division, the state runners-up to Bangor last season, Pepin-Alma barely held on to beat Clear Lake 35-34.
Caiden Haake had five rushing TDs in the win but it was a failed two-point conversion that was the difference.
Clear Lake scored with 3:05 to go to pull within 35-34 and went for two, but the pass attempt was incomplete and P-A held on and will play No. 6 Eleva-Strum on Friday.
