Will include scenic overlook and two goat prairies

Hixon Forest is getting another trail, thanks to a collaboration between government, business and education.

It will be called The Building Champions trail, tied in with the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse athletics.

The trail, still being worked on, will include scenic overlooks and two goat prairies.

UW-L athletic director Kim Blum says, “part of the trail is a 1-mile educational loop, where anybody can go and learn about different things on the trail.”

The nine businesses helping to finance the trail will be revealed  Friday.

Blum says the ‘Building Champions’ name partly refers to those businesses financing the project because many represent the building industry.

Those firms are working with the La Crosse Park Dept. and UW-L to develop the 1.3-mile trail.

“We’re really looking at it as a way to give back to the community, but these businesses supporting the costs of the trail, they are supporting UW-La Crosse, as well,” Blum said.
