Council member, again, says alternate-side parking is about the money for La Crosse
Gary Padesky wants to shorten parking period
With this week not feeling much like winter, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to enforce winter parking rules in La Crosse
Gary Padesky agrees. Earlier this year, the La Crosse city council member failed at getting a proposal passed that would have shortened the alternate-side parking enforcement season.
He might try again. Otherwise, he tells us, enforcement of the rules with no threat of snow is nothing more than a money grab.
“I know they’re going to say it’s about keeping the streets clean and the plowing,” Padesky said. “And a lot of that is true. But at least I have the guts to say what it is and it’s to make some money.
Whether Padesky brings back his proposal to cut a month off of alternate-side parking enforcement could depend on just how mild this winter’s weather turns out to be.
“There’s really no reason to be putting people through this the next few weeks, especially in the college area and down around the downtown area,” Padesky said. “It’s just so hard for people to find parking the way it is.”
