Volunteers are setting up 3.5 million lights now

Two new attractions are getting added to the La Crosse’s Rotary Lights.

Right now, you’ll see volunteers putting up the 3.5 million lights for the festival that begins Nov. 25 and runs through New Years Eve..

When and if winter comes, the north side of Riverside Park will feature a temporary ice skating rink.

“This year we’re going to accomplish it,” Rotary president pat Stephens said. “Of course, it requires Mother Nature to help us out to get that done.

“If it’s days like this, there will be no skating in the park, just so you know.”

Another attraction will take visitors around the park.

“Parked just outside the ice castle here is our new Santa Express train,” Stephens said.

Other attractions will include a fire breathing dragon and an animated tunnel to walk through.

For the past 22 years, the Rotary Lights have filled the night in La Crosse and the shelves of area pantries, as it is also a food drive. That drive actually begins at Logan High School on Saturday with the second annual iFeed Drive.
