Howards Grove sweeps Aquinas at WIAA state tourney

Blugolds end season 31-5

GREEN BAY, Wis. — The top-ranked team needed just three sets to take down Aquinas High School’s volleyball team today in the WIAA state tournament.

Howards Grove won the semifinal matchup from the Resch Center 3-0 (25-11, 25-21, 25-18) against third-ranked Aquinas, which ends its season with a 31-5 record.

It was the first trip to the WIAA state tournament for the Blugolds, who did win a WISSA state title back in 1984.

Howards Grove 6-foot middle hitter Samantha Yancy had a season-high 23 kills in the five-set win over the  No. 2 ranked team to get to state.

Friday, she had 23 kills in just three sets against the Blugolds.

Courntey Conway had 10 kills to lead Aquinas, which hit just .080 as a team.

Danielle Dolan had 23 assists and 12 digs for the Blugolds.
