According to survey, Wisconsin dairy farms not in favor of TPP
Nearly 80 percent of dairy farmers in Wisconsin are against the Trans Pacific Partnership
That, according to a survey by the Wisconsin Farmer’s Union this summer. The survey was sent out to around 8,400 dairy producers in the state and about a 1,000 responded, according to Darin Von Ruden, the president of the Wisconsin Farmers Union.
“Currency manipulation was the No. 1 concern of theirs,” Von Ruden said of the survey results for those not in favor of TPP.
Recent reports had been that farmers were in favor of the deal. Apparently, those reports were wrong.
One farmer said the deal protects other countries more than the farmers in the U.S.
“Most of those countries are net exporters of dairy products,” Von Ruden said. “So, if we go into agreements, and we don’t have the prpoper protections for U.S. farmers, we could be looking at lower prices than we currently are seeing.”
Von Ruden says they’ll be taking these results to those in charge.
