Unlike La Crosse and its 2,625 warnings, none for Winona to start alt-side parking

They start two weeks later in La Crosse and end two weeks earlier. Winona’s alternate-side parking ban took effect this morning. Like La Crosse, cars need to park on the odd or even side of the street depending on the day, but unlike La Crosse, no warning period.

“In year’s past, warnings haven’t had any affect,” city manager Steve Sarvi said. “In fact, we typically found the balled up and thrown on the ground next to the car.”

La Crosse handed out over 2,625 warnings on the first two days of its alternate-side parking period.

Sarvi says a big effort is made to make college students aware of the law, since they are mainly the violators.
