Still few answers on Trump’s plan with healthcare

President-elect had vowed to dismantle completely

Advocates for the Affordable Care Act have more questions than answers right now.

Jon Peacock from the Wisconsin Council on Children and Families says the organization is not clear on what the future holds for the federal law that Donald Trump has vowed to dismantle. But Peacock is hopeful.

“There’s no question that there’s going to be some significant changes to it but it increasingly sounds like president-elect Trump realizes there were a number of positive things that came out of that law,” Peacock said.

Peacock is skeptical that the majority of Republicans in Washington, D.C., will want to dismantle the health insurance exchanges, especially because that would take away insurance from the 20 million who’ve acquired it on the exchanges.

“Republicans are going to be thinking long and hard about how much they want to reverse that progress and shake up the health care system,” Peacock said.

Peacock believes the best move is to move forward with the assumption that nothing will change with the Affordable Care Act for now. That means continuing to sign up for insurance on the exchanges during the open enrollment period.

Peacock believes once Trump learns more about the Affordable Care Act, he’ll be less inclined to part with many of its parts completely.
