County unemployment ticks up, while La Crosse hovers at same rate

Unemployment in La Crosse ticked up slightly in October to 3.5 percent. It was 3.3 in September. 

That, according to numbers from the Wisconsin Dept. of Workforce Development. 

The city added 400 jobs over the last year, coming in at 78,500 for Oct.

According to the latest data, Wisconsin’s total private sector wages grew by 4.4 percent from June 2015 to June 2016.

The unemployment rate is still better than October of 2015, when numbers reached 3.7 percent.

La Crosse County’s rate remained the steady at 3.1 percent, while area counties Vernon and Trempealeau came in at 3.0 and 2.9 percent, respectively. 

That 3.1 ranks 17 of Wisconsin’s 72 counties.

The DWV also boasts that Wisconsin has a higher labor participation rate by 5.6 percent over the national rate.
