State Senate race was decided by 56 votes

Sources suggest that a recount of the presidential ballots in Wisconsin could start sometime this week.

If it does, we don’t know how that might effect the state Senate recount in the La Crosse area which begins at 9 a.m. today.

Four counties in the 32nd District will count their ballots again at the request of Republican Dan Kapanke, who trails incumbent Senator Jennifer Shilling by 56 votes.

Nearly 90,000 votes were cast in the race.

“We have (seven or eight) people working that one and the 30,000 ballots took us, I think, six days,” county clerk Ginny Dankmeyer said.

If Kapanke were to win, Republicans would have a nine-seat majority in the Wisconsin Senate.
