Hunters get 13 percent fewer deer in La Crosse County this year

Numbers decreased statewide, but fluctuated

If you were disappointed this year in how you did this gun deer season, you’re likely not alone.

In numbers released Tuesday, the Wisconsin Dept. of Natural Resources counts the total deer harvest around the state for the nine day hunt at just under 197,000 – a little over one percent lower than last year.  

But the numbers are also pretty uneven depending on where you hunted.

Up north, hunters saw a pretty significant increase. Western Wisconsin, on the other hand, is one of those places where deer weren’t quite so plentiful.

The take for La Crosse County, for example, was 13 percent lower than last year.

Surrounding counties – Vernon, Monroe, Trempealeau, Buffalo, Jackson – also saw between a 5-10 percent drop in the deer harvest.
