La Crosse County health dept. now one of 10 agencies to get accreditation

Took two years to earn recognition

The La Crosse County Health Dept. became one of 10 such agencies in Wisconsin to get a national accreditation.

Officials with county worked two years to get the recognition from the public health accreditation board.

“It’s a rigorous process that we go through to, basically, at the end to say we have a very strong health department,” La Crosse County health director Jen Rombalski said.

One of the requirements the county had to fulfill was to create an action plan for more outreach to the community.

“We have a performance management system that allows us to track various measures across our divisions and in the department as a whole,” Rombalski said. “We didn’t have that type of data before.”

Fewer than 150 government health organizations in the U.S. have qualified for that honor.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area.
