Illegal taxis in La Crosse

City council member asked about it at meeting Thursday night

Apparently, there are a whole bunch of illegal taxi cabs rolling around the city of La Crosse.

That’s pretty clear to city council member Audrey Kader. Cabs with body damage violate city rules, she says.

At last night’s city council meeting, a frustrated Kader interrogated assistant city clerk Nikki Elsen about the lack of enforcement of the rules. Elsen suggests that’s a function of process.

“It is part of the ordinance,” Elsen said. “It is written into the ordinance but it is not part of the mechanical inspections that are done each year with renewal.”

Kader’s complaints have spurred a new effort to insure taxi checks include excessive body damage.
