State rep. criticizes DOT’s overly optimistic view of roads steering budget plan
State says 1,600 miles road in fair or better condition
It might be an excessively optimistic view of the condition of Wisconsin roadways that’s driving DOT budget decisions.
The agency maintains that the state’s so-called backbone highways are in fair or better condition and that a maintenance and construction plan with no gas tax increase should be adequate.
Those roadways, however, only account for 1,600 miles of the state’s 115,000 and state rep. Robb Kahl isn’t thrilled about the assessment.
“We are patting ourselves on the back saying 1.4 percent of our roads are in fair or better condition,” Kall said during a hearing in Madison. “I would argue certain roadways in each community are the backbones of those communities.”
Kahl said many roads are in awful condition and is among the critics of the DOT’s transportation plan.

Wisconsin should widen up and end the failed policy of cannabis Prohibition, which just like alcohol Prohibition, does not work and instead, legalize responsible adult use 21 and up, tax and regulate this vast, ever growing and unstoppable black market in the state and use the tens of millions in taxes to fix this and other needed finding issues. A strong 60% bipartisan majority in the state wants cannabis legalized. We know Prohibition does not work. Legalize, tax and regulate and just fix the roads Wisconsin!
