Meth dealers nabbed again in La Crosse

Neighborhood resource officers get credit for alert ID of perp

La Crosse police say two repeat drug offenders have been busted again for meth dealing.

33-year-old Brandon J. Smith and 25-year-old Jordan M. Hammel were busted after a brief foot chase on Wednesday afternoon.

Neighborhood Resource Officers were working a suspicious activity call on the north side around the 1900 block of Kane St. when they saw Smith make a quick change of direction in his car when he saw police.

The officers followed the car which stopped quickly. Smith and Hammel took off on foot and were quickly run down.

A police K9 unit was brought in to check out the car and hit on some meth.  

Cops found 11 ounces of meth in the backseat, worth about $30,000 on the street.  

Police also discovered $1763 in cash and a loaded stolen handgun. Smith admitted that all of it was his.  

Both Hammel and Smith face multiple charges including for drug dealing and illegal firearm possession.

Both also have been charged numerous time in the past several years on similar charges.
