Asst. police chief “fed up” with light sentencing for gun crimes and repeat offenders

Abraham calls for maximum penalties to set example.

La Crosse’s assistant police chief isn’t backing down.

Rob Abraham raised eyebrows last week with a social media post critical of the local justice system and local sentencing of criminals involved in gun crimes.

The tweet was in response to repeat offenders involved in recent shootings.

Since then, he hasn’t changed his mind, either.

“I’m sick of people who are involved in gun crimes not being put away for maximum penalties,” Abraham said on WIZM’s La Crosse Talk PM. “I think it’s ridiculous that the community has to be subjected time and time again by the same individuals and the same crimes, being gun-related crimes.”

Abraham continued.

“I’m fed up with the fact that we keep seeing the same people over and over again,” he said. “We keep coming up with excuses on why they shouldn’t be locked up.”

The comments stem from two high-profile shooting cases on the south side in the past week and a half involving repeat offenders had gotten off easy in La Crosse county courtrooms.

“The message should be sent that if you commit a gun crime in La Crosse County, you should expect the maximum penalty,” Abraham said. “That would send a message. That is not the message that gets sent here.

“You’re going to keep seeing the same things over and over again until we start sending that message.”

Yea, i agree. I hate the fact that law enforcement shoot my brothers and sisters repeatedly and continue to go free.. I think they should be held to the maximum penalties as well.. lets not stop with regular street criminals, let us continue to pursue the ones that are unified and organized as well.. ok, im done carry on..

Tipu you deal drugs and are in the same gang as these boys. Ummmmmm…… remember??? You just haven’t been caught. And your Last name muhtikar. Pot dealing is a CRIME. We don’t have strict policies and struggling teen are resorting to using. Pot is a gateway drug. We need addiction and mental health along with sentences. Good HARD work would be good for big city people who have not been exposed to actual labor! Good kids turning bad because that’s what they know. That’s not what they said they wanted to be when they grow up. The pot that’s being dealt is laced and contains metal, formaldehyde, and molds. The main factory that produces medical marijuana needs FDA standards if they are going to legalize it. Even so, it’s legal medically. So do all these teens with developing brains have a RX? Does the older generation understand that the genetically altered pot has so much more THC and it can damage a growing brain? Teens are treating normal hormones, and teen depression with THC. The anxiety and depression will increase not decrease. Understanding why a brain can become addicted is what needs to be taught. Pot does have hallucinating properties. Every person has a different PH reaction to substances. What about allergies? It’s a plant. It can cause allergic reactions too. So the FDA should take over controlling this pot. The teen boys and other adults using young boys to do there dirty work need to be educated, and have consequences. It’s called you know your wrong. Everyone is raised the same on that topic. Right?? After making poor choices and choosing to behave inappropriately in society then their should be reprocushions taken. These light punishments affect not only the individual. It affects school kids, shows other teens we don’t need to follow the rules of society and causes grief and stress to families of loved ones who either self medicate, are wronged and struggle within etc! Tipu I’m not sure what your family life is like. But you on here manipulating this conversation is horrible. Your a part of this network who is walking around thinking you can behave and do whatever you like. Right?? How fair is it to your buddies sitting locked up and you not? Maybe this is time for a wake up call? Make some changes! To your own life! Stop selling to our teen kids! Stop thinking money can be earned lazily. Go use your brain and get an education and do good things. I’m sure your capable of better. I’m sure your mom and dad did not want you involved in this activity. Right??
