Deadline to apply is May 21.

Habitat for Humanity in La Crosse is looking for families in one of three news homes being built.

Executive director Kahya Fox says there are misconceptions that the home is free.

“(They must be) interested in helping us build the homes,” she said. “We require at least 350 hours of sweat equity.

“We work with them to get a 30 year, 0-percent loan. We’re looking for families who have the ability to repay, so they’re going to be making a monthly mortgage payment.”

The homes are all being built on the corner of 5th and Mississippi.

Applications will be taken May 1-21.

Potential homeowners must attend an info sessions May 3 or May 6 at the Habitat ReStore office on Berlin Dr. Volunteers are also being sought.
