To the “Worm Mobile!”

Electric car donated to La Crosse composting program
A La Crosse composting campaign, aimed at being environmentally friendly, gets a gift of a special vehicle – one that also helps the environment.
The ‘vermi-composting’ project supported by Mayo Health System and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse now uses a small electric car to bring food scraps to the shed where worms convert it into fertilizer.
Chris Schneider from Honda Motorwerks donated the Worm Mobile, and says similar recycling projects are in the works.
Schneider and UW-L chancellor Joe Gow took a spin in the Worm Mobile on Tuesday at the composting facility off Ferry St.
The Hillview Urban Ag Center has produced about five tons of fertilizer from about 47,000 pounds of food scraps, through its composting system in the last seven years.
