La Crosse police seek re-accreditation
The process is done every 4 years
The La Crosse Police Department is under review this week as they go through a re-accreditation process.
More than 40 departments statewide are officially accredited.
There’s more than 200 standards the department has to meet.
Lieutenant Patrick Hogan says there are several things assessors are looking for.
“They’ll spend time looking at paperwork and proofs that we have, but they’ll also look at observables. They’ll see our evidence area, our property area. They might even go on a ride along and talk with some of our officers.”
Hogan says it is a healthy process to have an objective group come in and make sure things are being done correctly.
He adds that there is also opportunity to exchange ideas.
“We’ve got about 4 guys in our department who are assesssors. Quite often we can bring back to our agency things we see that are working, and things that could benefit us.”
Public comment is encouraged as well. Citizens are asked to call 608-789-7252 between 1 and 3 PM on Wednesday.
