Macy’s closed at La Crosse mall in March

One anchor store at Valley View Mall is getting ready to move into the empty space left behind by another store.

The mall and its management company have announced that Herberger’s will relocate into the former Macy’s store this fall.

Macy’s had been at Valley View for over a decade before closing a few weeks ago.

That storefront facing Highway 16 originally operated as Dayton’s when Valley View opened in 1980, and became Marshall Field before being bought by Macy’s.

Herberger’s was located at 5th and Main in downtown La Crosse before it moved into the mall.

The relocation will more than double the space available to Herberger’s.

No word on what would replace Herberger’s in its current space on the back side of the mall.
