High speed chase ends in arrest after standoff near Westby
Man captured after three hour confrontation.
It started with an armed robbery, and then became a chase through two counties and a roadside standoff.
Now, a man is in custody in Vernon County.
We’re told that a bar in La Crosse County was robbed by an armed man late last night. He apparently got several thousand dollars.
A chase into Vernon County reached speeds of up to 100 miles an hour, until a stop stick was used to disable the car.
A witness at the scene of the standoff told us police fired several non lethal rounds and gas canisters into the suspect’s car. The suspect was apparently listening to very loud rock music during the ordeal.
Police also employed an armored vehicle during the standoff.
No injuries have been reported.
The driver reportedly gave up after about a three hour confrontation with police.
