Mayo asking city for permission to chalk sidewalks
City rules would consider chalking graffiti
The city of La Crosse frequently fields requests for special events, special signs, big banners that would otherwise fall outside the city codes.
Rarely is there a request for sidewalk chalking.
Apparently, Mayo Health Clinic won’t be risking a graffiti ticket in the city of La Crosse.
The health care giant is asking permission to do some sidewalk chalking ahead of its clinic opening June 1 in the downtown Belle Square Development. The city’s board of public works entertains the request today.
The chalking will promote the clinic and be in place a week or two. Sidewalk chalk does fall under the city’s graffiti rules and could net the chalker tickets of up to $1,000.
Last month, a woman in Onalaska, Wis., ran afoul of that city’s graffiti rules by chalking sidewalks at the Great River Landing.
