Shilling, Kabat, Medinger speak at yearly ceremony in La Crosse

The end of April is a time for people who died while on the job to be remembered by loved ones.

La Crosse conducted its annual Workers Memorial Day ceremony on Friday, at a gazebo near the 7th Street boat landing.

State Senator Jennifer Shilling spoke about her parents and five other people who were murdered in 1993 during a robbery at her family’s restaurant near Chicago, and urged the public to recommit itself to protecting workers.

Current La Crosse Mayor Tim Kabat read a proclamation for the day, and former Mayor John Medinger spoke about the history of the event, and of the memorial gazebo at Green Island.
