It took a week to charge Alan Fry. Two weeks later, the 34-year-old was back in court, pleading not guilty to armed robbery and crimes following the holdup.

The Holmen man is accused of putting a shotgun to the face of a female bartender at My Place bar and demanding money the night of April 25.

Police spotted Fry’s truck going about 70 miles an hour around Market St. after the robbery. Once he got out of the city, he sped up to 100 mph.

Police finally caught up to him in Vernon County, disabling his vehicle on Hwy. 14. A five-hour standoff ensued.

A witness at the scene of the standoff told us police fired several non-lethal rounds and gas canisters into his vehicle. Fry was apparently listening to very loud rock music during the ordeal.

Police, who also employed an armored vehicle during the standoff, recovered a shotgun and 9 mm.

Fry could get 40 years in prison, just on the robbery charge, in which he got about $700.
