One council member believes the fix will come next year.

A final decision on whether to repair La Crosse’s Losey Blvd. immediately comes tonight.

The city council votes on spending reserve cash for a quick fix of the street, though it’s much more likely to take a committee’s recommendation to push for a more comprehensive repair next year and maybe a complete redesign in the near future.

City council member Gary Padesky doesn’t think that’s the worst outcome. It was Padesky who originally proposed the reserve cash funding fix.

“I don’t think it would come out of a reserve,” Padesky said. “I really didn’t want to see money come out of the reserve for this but I just wanted to get the point across that we had to start taking this seriously.”

And what that did was start the conversation, then the phone calls.

“Obviously, it pushed the point because now the other council along there are getting calls,” Padesky said. “And there all making sure that Losey gets done over the next three, four, five years, that we just get it done completely.”

Padesky’s proposal did force the council to consider repairs to the road soon, and he seems pretty satisfied with that outcome.

“We won’t get it this year, but we’ll get it done next year for sure,” Padesky said.

Pleas from neighbors for an immediate came because of the ongoing structural damage to their homes caused, apparently, by heavy trucks bouncing.
