La Crosse Dem. Party chair questions firing of FBI director Comey

J.D. Wine believes an independent investigation should be conducted.

There’s been a wide range of reactions this week to the firing of FBI director James Comey by President Donald Trump.

Many believe the president was justified. Some, however, like La Crosse County Democratic Party chair, J.D. Wine, question the timing of the firing of Comey who had started to ramp up the investigation into possible Russian ties with the Trump campaign.

“I’m wondering what Trump has to hide and I think the American people have a right to know,” Wine said. “So, there should be an independent investigation, even though the Republicans in Congress don’t want to investigate him.”

Some Republicans have, in fact, suggested an independent investigation may actually happen.  

“It’s disturbing that we had two people in the government, who were investigating a Trump-Russia connection,” Wine said, “Salley Yates, who was the acting attorney general, and she got fired. And then Comey, the acting FBI director, and he got fired.”

Wine also finds it disturbing that the media that reports on the investigation into Russian election collusion get attacked by the Trump administration.
