Renovation project is worth over $30 million

A $500,000 grant appears to be headed to the city of La Crosse for redevelopment of a property near the south side Oktoberfest grounds.

The city council approved accepting a state grant from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation on Thursday night.

The grant will help pay for the demolition and redevelopment of the old La Crosse Plow building owned by the Cleary family.

The building hasn’t been used for anything but storage for decades and has faced condemnation and wide criticism for the disrepair into which at least part of the building has fallen.

Plans were announced last year for a new development at the site that would mix retail and apartment spaces.

The contract between the city and the WEDC indicates the development would be upwards of $30 million.
