Wisconsin Sen. says health care law will roll back bipartisan efforts to fight drugs.

Wisconsin Sen. Tammy Baldwin and other federal lawmakers are standing against the American Health Care Act, also dubbed Trumpcare.

A press conference Tuesday focused on the impact the law would have on those addicted to opioids.

“Trumpcare will weaken consumer protections in the private insurance market,” Baldwin said, “and repeals the guarantee that insurance companies must provide coverage for substance abuse treatment, mental health and other essential benefits.”

Baldwin also said the law would destroy the success they’ve had in the past year.

“We finally made some bipartisan progress in fighting the opioid epidemic,” she said. “Trumpcare will pull the rug out from under our efforts and it will bring us backwards.”
