Bass fishing’s best with FLW coming to La Crosse

Six of the Top 10 will be taking part in this weekend’s event.

Some of the best in the world of fishing will be in La Crosse through Sunday. 

Friday through Sunday, Fishing League Worldwide (FLW) is bringing 160 bass fishermen to La Crosse – six ranked in the Top 10 in the world – to take on the Mississippi River.

“The river is fast and high right now,” Mike Brueggen, a BFL stud from La Crosse, Wis., who holds 24 Top 10 finishes on the river – four of which were victories, told FLWfishing.com. “The water temperature was close to 60 degrees in some areas [two weeks ago], but we had a cold front come through and it dropped the temps down almost seven degrees. 

“That just shows how quickly things can change this time of year, and who knows what it’ll be like when the Tour gets up here.”

Takeoffs are at 6:30 a.m. feach day with weighins around 3 p.m. at Veteran’s Park on Clinton St.

The weather this weekend doesn’t scream to get on the water but for the pros, it makes no difference.

“The one thing that worries me more than anyting are the lightning storms that come through the area,” tourney director Bill Taylor said. “But they do this for a living. They’ll still catch plenty of fish.”

FLWfishing.com also writes, “Breaking down Pools 7, 8 and 9 of the Mississippi River is no simple task, but it’s what every one of the FLW Tour pros will endeavor to do this week in the sixth stop of the season. The tournament is based out of La Crosse, Wis., in Pool 8, and pros can fish upstream and downstream in each of the adjacent pools of the famous waterway, which gives them more than 65 miles of main channel to run and miles more of backwaters and side channels spread between Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa.”
