Nothing fancy, just the $4 million, outdoor option.

The La Crosse city council will be the next group to chew on where a new pool for the city should go.

Council member David Marshall, who represents the Memorial Pool area, says it’s pretty clear to him that the new pool should go right where the old one is next to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Marshall believes the accessibility of the spot for kids is the driving force in that preference.

“I’m informed, mostly by what most of my constituents seem to want, which is a place for the kids to go and recreate and have fun,” he said.

It’s that accessibility piece that is huge for him.

“There’s nothing that gives you a bigger sense of independence than getting on your bike and going to your pool, or going to the park or the library, for that matter,” Marshall said.

He also likes a pool for less than $4 million and one that’s outdoors. Nothing fancy.

“I’m not saying we shouldn’t have a nice, beautiful indoor aquatic center in the future,” Marshall said. “And, maybe even in the near future.”

Last week, the city’s park board recommended only the Memorial site be considered for a new pool.
