La Crosse airport gets new body scanner

Will scan for both metallic and non-metallic items.

No, it’s not the full-body scanner you’d see like from the movie Total Recall, where your skeleton appears on a screen for security.

But, the La Crosse Regional Airport did install a new body scanner nonetheless.

The next-generation Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT-2) safely and quickly screens passengers for metallic and non-metallic items without physical contact.

With an estimated two-million people flying in Wisconsin this summer, security director Mark Lendvay says it was a needed upgrade. 

Lendvay added that it will be beneficial for those with artificial limbs or have had hip replacements, which often set off the regular alarm. 

The device was began operation May 10.

 The device costs more than 100 thousand dollars.
