Valley View mall in Onalaska is for sale
Mall has annual sales close to $400 million.
ONALASKA, Wis. — The Valley View Mall in Onalaska is for sale.
The area’s biggest shopping center is, apparently, not big enough for its owner to hold on to.
The mall’s parent company, Preit of Pennsylvania, is offering both Valley View and Logan Valley Mall in Altoona, Penn., to buyers, describing them as “lower-productivity” properties.
A news release from Preit says the malls are being put on the market to “enhance the quality of its portfolio,” and to take advantage of evolving trends in the market. Preit announced the offering over the weekend.
Valley View has been in business for 37 years and was originally opened by a group of investors, including Dayton-Hudson. It has annual sales of close to $400 million.
Preit says the mall on Hwy. 16 is at 92 percent occupancy. Valley View recently lost its Macy’s store, but Herberger’s is planning to move into that space later this year.

Maybe if they had something other than clothing stores they’d get more sales. It’s all clothes and accessories. Yawn. We need an Earthbound Trading Company or some other unique store.

The Mall of America is a successful business. Valley View Mall has not been so successful to the point of losing stores left and right. Our mall is almost a joke at this point. Me personally, I’m a plus size woman, the last store that actually had a good and possibly cute plus size clothing wasn’t debs.. Maurice’s is a joke when they say they have plus size clothing. When they added Francescas it’s like adding more stores to fit the people who are tiny, just like Buckle, Hollister, Rue 21. It’s disappointing. So personally, they need to add more stores that fit for a wide range of people rather than just a store that only goes up to a Large. That’s why it would be wonderful if the people who owned Mall of America would own our Mall. They know how to please everyone. Not just one set of population.
