La Crosse getting behind “Just fix it” resolution to Wisconsin’s road problems

Campaign developed as a response to Gov. Walker’s decisions impacting repairs.

The La Crosse city council is moving toward affirming the position of a statewide transportation group that has called for more funding to fix roads.

The “Just fix it Wisconsin” resolution is something municipalities around the state are being asked to support at the behest of the Transportation Development Association, which is a group that lobbies for more transportation development in the state.

The resolution makes a point of highlighting how funding for roads, especially on the local level has decreased over the years.

The resolution, approved without discussion by a city council committee this week, calls for a “responsible” and “sustainable” level of funding for roads – especially on behalf of the local governments that fund most road repairs in the state.

The “just fix it” campaign was developed as a response to Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s pledge to not raise taxes for roads and delay some projects in the state, instead.

The decision will now head to vote for the full city council next week.
