Not a bunker, but kind of a bunker, to backup La Crosse’s IT

Backup site would cost around $170,000.

It’s not exactly a bunker.

It’s being called a disaster recovery site. The city of La Crosse is planning to build it away from city hall as a sort of “just in case.” 

Cost: About $170,000.

The area being looked at is the new storage building by fire station No. 3 on Losey Blvd. to back up the city’s information technology in case of the unthinkable.

“That’s part of all our emergency management efforts,” La Crosse Mayor Tim Kabat said. “Trying to insure that we have backup.

“Especially with our technology,” Kabat continued. “Having the ability to get all the computers and everything turned back on if there was some – god forbid – some terrible disaster, so we’re able to, as quickly as possible, resume operations.”

Tonight, the city council finance committee considers allocating the money to build the site.
