Liquor stores now open on Sunday in Minnesota

Decades old ban undone beginning this weekend.

There’s a high likelihood that some places selling booze in Wisconsin will have a much quieter Sunday this weekend.

Across the Mississippi River, Minnesota has undone its decades old ban of Sunday liquor sales.

“I don’t expect a whole lot yet this Sunday because it’s new and there’s not a lot of advertising out about being open on Sunday,” said Dave Ruppert, owner of Fifth Street Liquor in Winona, Minn. “But I think we’re going to see a fair amount because we had a lot of regulars asking us if we’re going to be open on Sunday.”

Ruppert isn’t sure how beneficial being open on Sunday will be. He’s also not sure about Saturday now, either. 

“The only questions I have is now that people know we’re open on Sunday, are Saturday sales going to be down?” Ruppert asked.
