Specialist was called in from Dane County and facility was evacuated.

A potentially explosive substance brought to a La Crosse County disposal facility caused an evacuation Thursday.

Staff immediately recognized the material, which was brought by a resident in a container to the La Crosse County Solid Waste Dept.

What exactly the material was, was not disclosed in the press release that came late Thursday from La Crosse County special waste manager Randy Nedrelo. Nor any information on the resident who brought it in.

A specialist from Dane County, along with La Crosse’s fire dept. and a hazardous materials team were called in and properly disposed of the material at the site on Hwy. 16, which shut down as soon as it was identified.

The site should be back to normal operation today, which means it will be closed to the public according to the website.
