As I See It

Keep your hands off our craft beer

Things sure have changed in the beer industry. For the better, most would argue. Rather than having just two choices for a cold malted beverage, we have thousands. It is a craft beer revolution. Just walk through any liquor store. The wall of beers many have never heard of stretches the length of the store. People’s tastes have changed. Besides just brewing delicious beers, many have their own tap rooms, where people can sample or buy those beers straight from the tap. And that has some in Wisconsin upset. Some of our lawmakers are thinking of punishing these craft brewers by imposing new regulations on them. Even going so far as to create a new state office. The Office of Alcohol Beverages Enforcement. Its mission? To close down the tap rooms offered at so many craft breweries all across the state. But these craft breweries are putting people to work, and growing. The number of breweries in Wisconsin has nearly doubled just in the past five years. Nobody outside of a few politicians in Madison is clamoring for a new state office to regulate what or where we drink all these delicious mixtures of hops and yeast. The people of the state have already spoken on this one.
