UPDATE: Fire guts former beauty salon on Division Street

UPDATE: One person was hurt and sent to a hospital and six people in all are without housing for now, after an apartment building in La Crosse caught on fire Tuesday.

Smoking materials are getting the blame for the afternoon fire in a two-story building at intersection of 8th and Division streets.

Heavy fire and smoke were coming from the first floor when firefighters arrived and quickly extinguished the flames. The building operated for many years as a beauty parlor.

 

TUESDAY, 5 p.m.: A two-story home near Lincoln Middle School in La Crosse has been gutted by an afternoon fire. 

At least one person was taken away by ambulance from the fire scene at 729 Division St. 

There’s not much damage to the outside of the building, but the inside of the first floor appears to be gutted. 

No word yet on the cause of the fire.

For many years, the building housed the Hollywood Beauty Salon.
