La Crosse’s juxtaposition: Drought here, rain damage there
City scrambling to water new trees, while trails still washed out.
Two almost contradictory notices coming from La Crosse’s city hall.
Potential drought-like damage on one hand. Heavy rain damage on the other.
A juxtaposition the city of La Crosse is dealing with right now. The city’s urging property owners to water trees on boulevards as the city has experienced several days of very dry conditions. Younger trees especially are susceptible to periods of low moisture. And, there are plenty of those.
City crews have been in a tree planting flurry in an effort to replace all of the ash trees cut down.
Meanwhile, another notice warns against using trails in the marsh and Hixon forest that were damaged in recent heavy rains and remain damaged and closed from washouts.
Some Hixon trails have been opened, though other trails and the marsh trails are still closed.
