Festmaster for 2017 La Crosse Oktoberfest revealed

New Festmaster served as state Senate president for years

Former Wisconsin Sen. Brian Rude won a new election this year – a secret vote not revealed publicly until Saturday night.

Rude and his wife Karen will be Festmaster and Frau for the 2017 Oktoberfest in La Crosse.

The announcement was made at the Festmaster’s Ball, now held in August, a month ahead of the start of Oktoberfest.

Rude works at Dairyland Power in La Crosse, but lives in Coon Valley, Wis. 

Before joining Dairyland, the Westby, Wis., native served nearly 20 years in the Wisconsin Legislature, mostly in the Senate, where he was president for many years.

Oktoberfest will run from Sept 28-Oct.1

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
