It’s been on the drawing board for years, and has been opposed for environmental reasons, but the CapX 2020 power line is now complete.

A section of line in South Dakota was dedicated on Wednesday.

The $2 billion project includes high-voltage lines in the Dakotas, Minnesota and western Wisconsin. The eastern point of the project, at a substation near Holmen, was dedicated two years ago.

Designers of the CapX project say it will improve access to increasing sources of solar and wind power.
