Eagles (4-0) head to No. 6 Viterbo (7-0) in Coulee Cup battle

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Amber Dunn has started her University of Wisconsin-La Crosse coaching career out pretty OK, if you like 4-0 starts.

At a tournament in Cedar Rapids, the Eagles took down St. Norbert 3-0 and Grinnell 3-1 on Friday. Saturday, it was a pair of sweeps against Northland and Westminster.

That sets up at 7 p.m. Wednesday the big intracity rivalry with powerhouse Viterbo University, which is ranked No. 6 in the NAIA. It’s also Dunn’s alma mater, where she was a three-year starter (2007-11).

Like UW-L, the V-Hawks also went 4-0 on the weekend and are now 7-0 so far this season.

Friday, Viterbo took down the third-ranked team in the NAIA, Park University 3-2 and then turned around that night and beat No. 12 Missouri Baptist 3-2, as well.

Saturday, the V-Hawks got a pair of sweeps against Friends U. and No. 8 Columbia College.

Of its seven wins, Viterbo has beaten five Top 25 opponents.

The two teams will play Wed. for the Coulee Cup – a giant gold cup and symbol of bragging rights in town.

While Viterbo has won the matchup and the cup the past nine seasons, UW-L holds the all-time record at 27-12.
